Chocolate Chip Banana Bread – super moist and flavourful banana bread loaded with chocolate chips.

This Super Moist Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is one of my absolute favourite recipes. It’s one of those recipes that I make so often that I know it off the top of my head. I have been making it for years and I know that after you try this one, it will be your go-to too!

What you will need.

Aside from your typical sugar, butter and flour, this banana bread gets it’s moisture from sour cream. Don’t skip it! If you do not have sour cream, you can use plain or vanilla greek yogurt in it’s place.

Very ripe bananas – Very ripe/brown bananas are best because they are nice and sweet and give this banana bread it’s amazing flavour.

How to ripen bananas

Your bananas aren’t ripe? No problem. Bake them in their peels, on a lined rimmed baking sheet at 300 degrees F until the peels turn black. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Let them cool before handling.

Only use this method if you really need banana bread ASAP and don’t have naturally ripened bananas. Although it does the trick, the flavour won’t be as rich. This article from Food 52 explains why.

Here’s my trick for always having ripe bananas on hand. Ever get to the end of your bunch of bananas and that last one is just too brown to eat? Throw it in the freezer! I always have a stash of brown bananas in my freezer. In college, all of my friends knew this and would knock on my door with their brown bananas to add to the stash and in the hopes of future banana bread!

How to make Super Moist Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

The best part about this recipe is that it can be made in just one bowl!

Using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar on high speed until light and fluffy.

Add eggs and vanilla and mix until combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

On low speed, add flour, baking soda and salt and mix until just combined.

Next, add in the mashed bananas and sour cream and mix until batter is smooth.

Lastly, add the chocolate chips. Don’t over mix here, just until the chocoalte chips are dispersed throughout the batter.

Pour batter into greased loaf pan.

Bake for about an hour and 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
