Easy Edible Cookie Dough – a classic cookie dough base with endless possibilities of mix-ins.

I love this recipe because it can be used for so many different purposes. My favourite is using it as a layer in a cake or mixing it in to buttercream. You could also, top cupcakes with it, mix it into ice cream or eat it alone! The possibilities are endless!

How to Make Easy Edible Cookie Dough

First things first, we have to bake the flour. Baking the flour eliminates any risk for contamination and ensures this cookie dough is in fact, edible.

Preheat your oven to 350 F. Spread the flour on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake the flour for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, beat together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla and beat well. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to make sure everything is well combined.

Once you have finished baking the flour, let it cool for a little while. Once it is cool enough to handle, sift it. After baking the flour it will have clumped together a bit and by sifting, we make sure that it mixes in with the wet ingredients easily. You can sift the flour directly into the bowl with the wet ingredients or into a separate bowl and then add it in.

Beat the flour and wet ingredients on low speed until well combined.

Lastly, the fun part! Add in your mix-ins!

What can I mix in?

Here are a few of my favourites:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles
  • Toffee bits
  • Candy coated chocolates (Smarties or M&Ms)
  • Nuts

Chill your cookie dough for about an hour. The dough will hold up better when chilled.

Store Edible Cookie Dough in the fridge. You can also freeze it!

How to make Cookie Dough Buttercream

<img loading=

Making Cookie Dough Buttercream is super easy. It starts with a batch of my Perfect Vanilla Buttercream. Once you have made the buttercream, beat in about 1/4 – 1/2 cup of cookie dough (without any mix-ins). The cookie dough will be easiest to mix in if it is at room temperature. I usually like to taste test as I go. You can add more or less cookie dough to suit your liking!
