Hi, I’m Kelsey Lacombe, a self-taught baker and Canadian theatre actor!
How Creme de Lacombe began…
I have been baking for as long as I can remember. It has always been a love of mine – a way to destress and a creative outlet. At theatre school I was the one who baked cupcakes for everyone’s birthdays and on show contracts, I help keep the green room well stocked with treats.
In the summer of 2017, I was performing in a production of Beauty and the Beast. I didn’t have another theatre job lined up afterwards and was searching for something to do with my upcoming off time. Before the show one evening, I was sitting in the dressing room sharing this concern with the other girls. One of them suggested I turn my love of baking into something more!
Soon enough, the whole cast was involved, helping me come up with clever names for whatever this idea was going to become. We were constantly brainstorming and I had a running list going in my phone. There’s a lyric in one of the songs where Belle’s father sings to her, “You are unique; creme de la creme…” One day, mid-show, one of the actors heard this lyric and immediately noticed how my last name fit in perfectly. Creme de Lacombe was born!
Since then, I have gone back and forth between blogging and making cakes for friends and family, figuring out where exactly I was heading with Creme de Lacombe. This new site is sort of a fresh start into the blogging world for me. Here you will find only my best recipes from my previous site and lots of new ones! I will also be sharing decorating ideas and how-to’s, as well as some allergy friendly recipes that I have been experimenting with lately.
If you try a recipe of mine or use a decorating idea as inspiration, let me know! Tag me on Instagram, @cremedelcombe, so I can see what you’ve made and share it!
About me
Originally a prairie gal from Winnipeg, Manitoba, I am currently based in Toronto, ON. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Theatre Performance from Sheridan College and travel across Canada performing in musicals! Some of my favourite shows I have done include; Crazy for You at the Citadel Theatre and Theatre Calgary, Legally Blonde at Theatre Sheridan and Holiday Inn with Drayton Entertainment.
My favourite things to bake are sugar cookies and mini cakes. I only decorate with buttercream and love all things pink! When not on stage or in the kitchen, I enjoy exercising, spending time with friends and family and catching up on the latest reality TV.
Thanks for stopping by!
